Workers in Abia go on indefinite strike over unpaid salaries.

 

Civil servants in Abia State have gone on indefinite strike in response to a directive from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
Information Nigeria learned that the strike began Tuesday morning, with most offices shut down.

However, the NLC strike enforcement team, led by Chairman Paschal Nweke, was seen loitering and placing banners and flags on some government offices to indicate the ongoing strike and ensure compliance.

Meanwhile, the Broadcasting Corporation of Abia, BCA, a state-owned radio station, had previously announced that it would begin offering “skeletal services beginning Tuesday.”

Nweke, who spoke to reporters on Library Avenue, stated that workers would remain at home until they received salary alerts for their services.

“We are on strike due to nonpayment.”

“We met with the state government and reached an agreement, but they have not followed through.”

“They are still receiving allocations, so they owe us money.” The strike is complete.

“We can’t stop this strike until we start getting our alerts,” said the NLC Chairman.
