The United Nations has stated that the experience of Yobe State in the resettlement of displaced persons in disaster situations offers valuable insights.
On Friday, UN Secretary General’s Special Adviser Mr. Robert Piper made this announcement during a meeting with Yobe Governor Mai Mala Buni in Abuja.
Yobe’s early management and resettlement of displaced citizens with dignity has made the state a role model in the administration of emergency situations, according to a statement issued by Governor Buni’s media adviser, Mamman Mohammed.
“We have a lot to learn and share from the Yobe State experience,” Mr. Piper added.
The UN Scribe’s Special Adviser promised to send a team there to learn more about the Yobe style and explore collaborative opportunities.
In response, Governor Buni said his administration moved quickly to reintegrate evacuees back into their communities so that they may have more dignified lives rather than languish in IDP camps.
For those who had to flee their homes, the governor stated, “we embarked on reconstruction, rehabilitation, and recovery process so they can return to their communities and live with dignity.”
