Dr Abiodun Ogundipe, President of ARD-UCH, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan that the move was taken to demand that their colleagues be enrolled on the government’s payment network.

He said the strike began at 8 a.m. on Thursday to draw the government’s attention to the predicament of the association’s 250 members.

Ogundipe stated that the members were hired at UCH in May but had yet to be recorded on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) and had not been paid.

“They have yet to be captured on the platform, which means there is no hope for them.”

“This is why we have embarked on this industrial action to express our displeasure and also to pleading with the government to help us facilitate this and ensure that our members are placed on the IPPIS platform as soon as possible so that life can be better for them,” he said.

Ogundipe noted that the walkout will likely last three weeks, depending on when the matter was resolved.

“There are other national welfare issues that the government needs to address, and we’re having a meeting tomorrow (Friday) to go over them.”

“The Federal Government has already been given a two-week deadline.”

“This is about some of our welfare issues and other issues that have been lingering for a long time,” he explained.
