TUC issued a warning about the next Monday protest

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has been urged by the Lagos State Parks and Garages Administrators (LASPAGA) to call off their planned demonstration on Monday, September 25.

In a statement released on Saturday in Lagos, LASPAGA Secretary Alhaji Abdulrahman Amusan urged TUC to verify its information before staging a “needless protest.”

You may remember that on Friday, TUC threatened to halt business in Lagos State.

The union claimed that the planned demonstration was prompted by the state government’s decision to restrict the operations of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN).

It claimed that governmental authorities were meddling in RTEAN’s operations.

For fear of being lured into the “stormy waters of transport union” by Alhaji Musa Mohammed, currently the TUC’s national treasurer and a former chairman of RTEAN, Amusan urged TUC leaders to proceed with care.

He clarified that the National Industrial Court (NIC) ruling from April 18 had no bearing on the establishment of LASPAGA, and that the union’s petition to the Court of petition was still pending.

Since its founding, the TUC’s primary mission has been to safeguard workers against tyranny and exploitation, earning it a reputation as a “pro-masses” organization.

We are shocked that certain individuals would use the union for their own ends, endangering the union as a whole.

The members of RTEAN were unhappy with Mohammed’s leadership style, so they plotted to have the organization suspended.

After the disturbance in Iyana Iba, the Lagos State Government stepped in to restore order.

“We advise the Festus Osifo-led TUC to thoroughly review its action to save the remaining respect people have still had for the union and use its energy to put its own house in order,” Amusan added.
