Tobi Amusan, a world-record hurdler and Nigerian athlete, has revealed that she has been charged with an anti-doping rule breach after failing three drug tests in a 12-month period.
On Tuesday, July 18, Amusan made the statement on her Instagram account, adding that she would fight the allegations. She will battle the claims in time to defend her title at the World Championships next month in Budapest.
“I am a clean athlete who is constantly (perhaps more frequently than typical) tested by the AIU- I was tested just days after my third “missed test.” “I am confident that this will be resolved in my favor, and that I will compete at the World Championships in August,” Amusan added.
Any combination of three whereabouts failures (Filing Failure and/or Missed Test) within a 12-month period constitutes an anti-doping rule violation, for which the applicable sanction is two years’ ineligibility, subject to a reduction to a minimum of one year depending on the degree of fault.
On Sunday, July 16, Amusan won the Diamond League meet in Silesia, her second success in the series this season after a triumph in Stockholm.
She placed third in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Golden Spike sports competition in the Czech Republic last month, losing behind defending Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico, who won in 12.42 seconds.
