Threats: Organization charges North-East actors with stabilizing the area

The North East Development Association (NEDA) has issued a challenge to Northeast stakeholders, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, governors, and legislators, to develop long-term strategies for the region’s revitalization.

The call was made on behalf of the organization on Tuesday in Abuja, during a press conference titled “Conference on Politics and Development in the Northeast Sub-region,” which was led by NEDA Secretary General Bitako Umar.

According to Umar, the advocacy and sociocultural group NEDA, which acts as the sub-region’s voice, recently met and discussed the region’s current political climate and ongoing development projects.

He explained that in order to help the region recover from the destruction caused by insurgency, violence, and other criminal inclinations, the association had decided to call the attention of key stakeholders to challenges on the ground.

That it is important for key players in the sub-region to keep in mind that the region was a major hub for agricultural and commercial operations; this was the resolution adopted by the Association.

Before the so-called Boko Haram and the subsequent community confrontations, the region was quite peaceful.

With the goal of reestablishing peace and security in mind, he stressed the importance of “collective and supportive collaboration” in restoring the region’s former splendor.
