They won’t win you the Premier League – Arsenal should replace two players, as recommended by Paul Merson

Paul Merson, a former player for Arsenal, has said that if the team wants to win the Premier League, they need to replace the forwards Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah.

Merson is convinced that neither Jesus nor Nketiah can lead Arsenal to success.

Both attackers were starters for Arsenal in their 2-2 draw with Tottenham on Sunday in the Premier League at Emirates Stadium.

While Nketiah was unable to make a significant impact against Tottenham, Jesus was presented with a wonderful opportunity to extend Arsenal’s lead in the 32nd minute after he dispossessed James Maddison. The Brazilian, sadly, blasted his attempt well over the crossbar.

Merson said on Sky Sports, “I have always said it from day one – Eddie Nketiah is not going to win you the Premier League. A reliable center forward is essential.

“I’m not criticizing Nketiah because they drew 2-2 with Tottenham, but I don’t think he gets them to the next level with 32 games to go and all the Champions League games they have to play.

To paraphrase, “I don’t even think Gabriel Jesus takes them to the next level.”

I thought for sure Arsenal would win on Sunday, but after seeing the lineups, I started to get really nervous. Fabio Vieira isn’t good enough in my opinion; I’d rather see Jesus on the wing and Nketiah up front. In January, they will only have Ivan Toney to choose from as there are not many central forwards available. They are an extinct species.
