The Kano State Sharia court in Kiru LGA has sent a man named Jaafar Lukman to a correctional facility on charges of assaulting the son of a pap seller, Jamila Mai-Kosai, who had refused to sell to him on credit.
The defendant had gone to the woman in an attempt to buy bean cake and pap on credit, but the woman had refused to sell to him on the grounds that he owed her money.
When the mother refused to give in to Lukman’s demand, he became angry and kicked the food she was frying, hurting her son in the process. The food included pap, bean cake, bean paste, and oil.
When the accusations were read to him, he pleaded guilty but said that he was angry and hungry at the time of the crime.
The hearing has been postponed to September 4 and the Khadi, Malam Usman Haruna Usman, has ordered that he be kept in prison.
