The first player to ever wear a hijab at a World Cup tournament is a year old Benzina

Nouhaila Benzina, a defender for Morocco, made history by donning a headscarf at the World Cup.

The 25-year-old made her tournament debut in her team’s 1-0 triumph over South Korea while wearing the Islamic headscarf.

In 2014, Fifa approved the practice of players covering their heads for religious purposes.

The Women’s World Cup this summer will include eight teams making their tournament debut, and Morocco is one of them.
