The federal government has announced that it will expand the national social register and its poverty reduction programs to cover the families of wounded and deceased soldiers.
This was discussed between Chief of Defense Staff General Christopher Musa and Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Dr. Betta Edu on Monday in Abuja.
Edu emphasized the importance of helping military families.
We wish to widen our social registry to include troops who have been separated from their families due to war or injury.
We need this information from the military so that we may include them in the social registry, she explained.
The minister stated that she was at the defense headquarters to ask for help from the Nigerian military in responding to humanitarian situations.
President Bola Tinubu’s administration places a high priority on alleviating humanitarian crises and poverty.
We’d rather talk about the widespread humanitarian issues the country is facing and how the military can help us stop additional people from needing humanitarian assistance.
She also emphasized the importance of being able to “effectively reach out to those who are affected by humanitarian crises wherever they are.”
Gen. Musa replied that the Nigerian military will do anything it could to help the minister carry out her duties.
Musa said that military actions can help those in need, and vice versa.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the meeting’s goal was to strengthen ties between humanitarian work and the military.
