Three people were killed and others were injured in a head-on collision between two fully loaded 18-seater buses in Imo State, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC.
The incident happened on Wednesday along the Owerri-Aba Expressway’s Ngor-Okpala axis.
Unit Head for the Ngor-Okpala council area of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mrs. Angela Fagbemide, made this announcement on Thursday, stating that one of the bus drivers swerved out of his lane and blocked the approach of the other driver coming from the opposite direction, resulting in a high-impact head-on collision.
She said, “Our men rushed eleven victims to a nearby hospital where three persons were confirmed dead.” Two people are still receiving care there, while the families of the rest have moved them to facilities more convenient to their homes.
She said that seven people had been taken to the hospital, with some having been released after receiving treatment for minor injuries.
She urged drivers to follow traffic laws to stay safe, especially as the end of the year celebrations draw near.
She also said the FRSC gave the families of the victims of the road accident N1,346,250 million in cash and other important personal goods.
Miss Chiamaka Emerenwa, a relative of one of the fatalities, expressed gratitude to the FRSC for its efforts in mobilizing support for the victims.
