The English Football Association has charged Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp for comments about a referee.

The Football Association has charged Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp for comments he made about referee Paul Tierney following his team’s 4-3 win over Tottenham on Sunday.

Tierney appears to have something “against” his team, according to the German, who expressed regret for the headlines generated by his comments.

Klopp’s comments were deemed “improper conduct” by the FA.

Klopp has until Friday, May 5 to respond to the accusation.

“It is alleged that the manager’s comments regarding the match official during post-match media interviews constitute improper conduct in that they imply bias, question the integrity of the referee, are personal/offensive, and/or bring the game into disrepute,” according to the FA.

“The entire situation should be reviewed.”

“It should never have happened,” Klopp said on Tuesday, ahead of his team’s game against Fulham on Wednesday.

“It was born of emotion and rage at the time.” That is why I celebrated in the manner that I did.

“We won a game 4-3 in spectacular fashion, and the only headlines I created were regrettable.” It’s neither necessary nor desirable.”
