The APC in Zamfara strongly disagrees with the decision to eliminate several crucial Sharia provisions

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state of Zamfara has spoken out against the purported elimination of essential Sharia components by the State Government.

It stated that the government had taken the step via a circular issued by Lawal Hussain, the permanent Secretary of the Cabinet.

The party named the seven bodies as the Directorate for Quran schools and Islamic Organizations, the Public Complaint Commission, the Anti-Corruption Commission, the Sharia Research and Development Commission, and the Islamic Preaching and Jumaat Mosques and Eid Praying Grounds Establishment Regulation Commission.

Mallam Yusuf Idris, publicity secretary for the All Progressives Congress in Zamfara, made this announcement in a press release.

Concerns have been raised concerning the future of State-sponsored projects to promote Islamic traditions, education, and governance after their departure.

Since almost everyone in the State is Muslim, the opposition party said that Governor Lawal’s move constituted a radical break with the State’s traditions.

“Of particular concern is the governor’s wife, who has no recognized constitutional role in government, taking over the UCC’s secretariat after the council was kicked out of Government House. The UCC was set up to provide the governor with Islamic guidance and to guarantee that governmental policies are consistent with Shari’ah.

To what extent Governor Lawal is committed to Islamic rituals and appreciates their significance in Zamfara State is called into question by his conduct. Some have voiced concern that eliminating these aspects could have a negative impact on the Muslim community by eroding Islamic principles and practices.

“Furthermore, the scrapping of institutions like the Qur’anic Recitation and Tajweed Agency and the Sharia Research and Development Commission has prompted concerns about the state’s ability to support Islamic education and research adequately,” the party continued.

The APC demanded that Governor Lawal reconsider his action and reinstate the commissions responsible for enforcing Sharia law.
