The administration of the University of Lagos, UNILAG, made an announcement over the weekend intended to help students cope with the new cost structure.
A statement posted to the school’s official social accounts explained that the decision was made in light of the present economic circumstances in the country, and it advised both current and prospective students to take note of the measures.
One of the changes is allowing students to pay their tuition in two payments, with the second installment due before the second semester’s registration deadline.
Students interested in the re-energized work study program and increased compensation may contact the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs (DSA).
Scholarships are now available for students; for details, please contact the DSA office.
“Students who are financially unable to pay for college can get help through the DSA office.
Measures have been established so that Triple A Project alums and other well-intentioned Nigerians can “adopt-a-student” through the Akokite Adoption Program.
The “Pay for Mentors Project” has been implemented at the university for very bright pupils.
Having a working relationship with the Lagos Bus Rapid Transport System will make getting about the city much simpler. Additional BRT dedicated lines serving the Berger Bus Stop axis and the Oshodi/Iyana Ipaja region of Lagos State have been approved by the Management and are now operational.
To refresh your memory, the school has recently bumped up the tuition it charges new students from N19,000 to N190,250.
Fees at Federal Government Colleges have also raised, from N45,000 to N100,000, following the lead of federal institutions.
Students and parents alike have spoken out against the decision, urging the government to roll back the increase because of how difficult the current economic climate has made life for everyone.
