Nasarawa State Assembly Speaker Ibrahim Abdullahi has called on the new All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership to reunite the party with disgruntled members who defected after the party’s primary elections.
The speaker argued that this would benefit the party and the country as a whole.
On Monday, Abdullahi led a delegation of APC House members to Lafia to congratulate the party’s newly elected officials.
Governor Abdullahi Sule and the other party leaders in the state, he said, deserve praise for choosing Aliyu Bello to serve as party chairman and Yarus Dagusa as party secretary.
The APC, the speaker said, had not yet fully recovered from the crisis caused by party primaries.
If we want to strengthen our party and do better in upcoming elections, we need to win back the disgruntled members who left.
We have faith in your potential to succeed since you possess all the resources necessary. You are the best candidate to lead our great party, the APC, into the next phase of its evolution at this time.
We are all aware, Mr. Chairman, of the events that transpired during the party primaries, when some members resigned because they felt they had been treated unfairly.
They defected to run for office in a different political party. I’m writing to urge you to reunite with all the disaffected former party members he claims have deserted you.
Abdullahi argued that the APC is the people’s party and that no matter the cost, the party’s former grandeur must be recovered.
He promised his allegiance and the party’s continued backing to the new leadership.
In addition, the speaker urged the opposition to work with the Sule administration for its success.
We have finished our defense at the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, and I am confident that we will be victorious,” he said.
The state’s residents were urged to back the current government so that they, too, might reap the benefits of democracy.
State APC chairman Aliyu Bello replied said he was grateful for the visit from the speaker and the other attendees.
“Mr. Speaker, you are the first speaker in the state’s history to be elected three times.
The party chairman stated that “you and other members of the House are held in high esteem” by the party.
Bello said he was relieved that the state legislature’s leadership problem had been settled peacefully.
The APC chairman stated that he is willing to bring together the various groups within the party that have been at odds.
However, he urged the legislators to collaborate for the greater good of the state and offered his support in working with them.
