On Tuesday, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State took firm action against Olumide Awolumate, the Ward 1 Chairman of the party in Akoko North-West Local Local Government Area, for attacking Olubunmi Osadahun, the Commissioner for Women Affairs in the state.
After Awolumate attacked and assaulted the commissioner over the distribution of palliatives in the local government, he was immediately and indefinitely suspended from the party.
The party in Akoko North-West suspended the troubled ward chairman and informed Ade Adetimehin, the state chairman.
Awolumate was suspended after an incident involving him and Osadahun received extensive media coverage and public outrage.
According to a statement released by APC state publicity secretary Alex Kalejaye, the APC’s local government chapter followed the order from the state office.
He claimed that a full inquiry into the incident had been ordered by the party’s state secretariat and that Awolumate’s suspension was the result of that investigation.
A video of the weekend event has gone viral after being posted to multiple social media sites.
Video captured the ward chairman, dubbed “Cuba,” physically assaulting Osadahun.
People were outraged by the video and called for immediate reprimand of the offending party official when it went viral.
Awolumate Olumide has been indefinitely suspended from the Akoko North West branch of our great party, and its leadership has decided to officially alert the State Secretariat of this development.
As soon as the State Secretariat received the suspension letter, Engr. Adetimehin promised that a strong disciplinary committee would be formed to guarantee that the suspended Awolumate is punished severely enough to serve as a deterrence to other leaders and members of the party.
