Police officer Mohammed Aminu, who was beaten by Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti, has been promoted.
In May, Kuti was seen in a viral video punching a police officer, who did nothing in reaction despite the provocation.
Kuti was later arrested and charged with assault, which he denied and was given bail for.
The officer was promoted to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), according to a statement issued by the Police Service Commission (PSC) on Thursday.
According to PSC spokesman Ikechukwu Ani, Aminu demonstrated a high level of professionalism despite the assault.
“Inspector Mohammed Aminu, who was seen being assaulted in uniform by one Seun Kuti on social media, was also promoted to ASP I,” Ani claimed.
The commission approved the appointment of two Deputy Inspectors General (DIG) and the promotion of the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, to the next rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) at its ongoing 21st plenary meeting.
Ani stated that 9,016 unconfirmed Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP) were confirmed, whereas 14,052 inspectors were promoted to Assistant Superintendents of Police (unconfirmed).
“One Inspector Habila Bulus was promoted to ASP II for his gallantry and commitment to duty,” Ani added.
Olalaye Falaye, former Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Command, has been promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General (AIG).
