Seun Kuti is arrested immediately by the IG after slapping a police officer.

 

Usman Baba, the Inspector-General of Police, has ordered the arrest of Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti in connection with an alleged assault on a police officer in Lagos.

Seun Kuti, Fela Kuti’s son, was seen slapping a police officer on Lagos’ third mainland bridge in a viral video.

Though it is unclear what prompted the confrontation, the police officer remained calm when confronted by the singer. The IG has also ordered a prompt and thorough investigation into the remote and immediate cause(s) of the alleged assault, as well as prosecution of the suspect.

This was in response to the musician’s alleged attempted murder of himself.

In a statement obtained by our correspondent on Saturday night, the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adéjb, said,

“The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, has directed the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, to arrest Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti, who was filmed assaulting a police officer in uniform.”

“The IG has also ordered a prompt and thorough investigation into the remote and immediate cause(s) of the assault, as well as prosecution of the suspect.”

“IG Baba assures Nigerians that acts of contempt/disdain for symbols of authority will not be tolerated, and perpetrators of such heinous crimes will be brought to justice.”
