The shadows cast by Financial Fair Play allegations over Manchester City’s historic treble are “frustrating,” according to chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak.
City is facing 115 Premier League penalties for a variety of financial violations.
After Manchester United in 1999, they were the second English team to win the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup in the same season.
“What these players have achieved this year is incredible,” Khaldoon added.
“I hope people focus on and judge them for their football and what they achieve on the field and in every competition they compete in.” That is the truth.”
Between 2009 and 2018, City was sent to an independent panel for more than 100 alleged rule violations, and manager Pep Guardiola has stated that he wants things resolved as soon as possible.
Khaldoon stated in an end-of-year in-house interview:
“It’s very frustrating because it detracts so much from the great work being done at this club.”
“The club as a whole is extremely well run.
“I can’t talk about them (the charges) for legal reasons.” These are proceedings that will take their time, and when they are finished, I will give you my very candid opinions. I have really strong feelings about it, but I’ll have to be restrained today.”
