Luis Rubiales, head of the Royal Spanish Football Federation [RFEF], has announced his resignation.
This comes amid ongoing investigations into his uninvited kiss on Spain forward Jenni Hermoso.
Hermoso filed a criminal complaint earlier this week, prompting prosecutors to open a case against Rubiales before Spain’s highest court.
Rubiales is facing sexual assault and coercion accusations following Spain’s 1-0 victory over England in the World Cup final in August.
FIFA has already suspended him for 90 days while it conducts its own investigation.
“I have submitted my resignation to Pedro Rocha, the acting president.”
“I also informed him that I had done the same with my position at UEFA, so that a replacement for my position as vice president could be sought.”
“After the suspension by FIFA, in addition to the rest of the proceedings against me, it is clear that I will not be able to return to my position,” Rubiales said in an open letter published on Sunday.
