Reno Omokri warns Emefiele, ‘Do Not Marry Your Progress With Acts Of Vengeance’ Tinubu

Reno Omokri, a former presidential assistant and socio-political pundit, has responded to the suspension and arrest of Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Godwin Emefiele.
Recall that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ordered Emefiele’s immediate suspension on Friday through Willie Bassey, Director of Information, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).
“This is a follow-up to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the economy’s financial sector.”
“Mr Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate) [Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi], who will act as Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of the investigation and reforms,” the OSGF said.
In a Twitter response to the suspension, Omokri argued that it was a vengeful act to punish Emefiele over the Naira redesign policy.
The political analyst encouraged Tinubu not to jeopardize his progress by pursuing vengeance, noting that the country requires unity and stability following the 2023 elections.
“The suspension of Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, by President Bola Tinubu is not in good taste,” he tweeted.
“It looks to be a vengeful measure, intended to penalize Mr Emefiele for the patriotic Naira redesign strategy, which was intended, among other things, to lessen the impact of money on the #NigerianElections2023.
“President Tinubu got off to a good start. Indeed, I have reason to commend him. But he should not sully his progress with this apparent act of revenge. Following a tumultuous election, the country requires unity and stability. The time has come for appeasement, not punishment. It is anticipated that the President will reconsider his actions for the better interest of the country.”
On Saturday, he questioned, “Where is Godwin Emefiele?”
“The Tinubu administration should not imprison him and start making public allegations against him.” This is exactly what Buhari did to Jonathan government officials after taking office in 2015. They were imprisoned, and while they were there, claims were made against them in order to turn the public against them, without giving them the opportunity to defend themselves.
We had hoped that those dreadful days were over. Question and even blame Emefiele, but give him the opportunity to defend himself against these rumors and innuendo.
“Where has he gone?” What legal order is he being held under? Allow Nigerians to hear from him. President Tinubu should not repeat the draconian methods of his immediate predecessor after such a promising start. This is comparable to what Abachs did in 1994, which pushed Tinubu into exile.”
