Reaction to the Lagos government giving actor Iyabo Ojo seven days to pay N18 million in back taxes

Actress Iyabo Ojo has been ordered by the Lagos State Government to pay N18,640,092.00 in personal income tax within seven days.

It stated that Iyabo Ojo owes N7,376,000.00 in taxes for the year 2022 and that she still owes N11,264,092 for the tax year 2021.

After posting the income tax letter on her Instagram page, the actress received a seven-day deadline to make good on her debt or face penalties.

Iyabo Ojo responded to the letter by criticizing the method used to determine the tax amount.

“Governor Jide Sanwo-Olu, please, how do you people come up with these outrageous individual income taxes you send out every day?,” the actress pleaded.

“Even after paying various taxes on one’s enterprises, home, and other assets, you still come up with this enormous sum and give me seven days to pay up, lol.

When you folks requested me to visit your office the last time, I did. You asked me to explain and declare my income, which I did with the help of my tax advisor, but no you didn’t reply to my letter because you want me to pay you an absurd sum that I don’t have, so why do you think I should commit theft, ni? I inquire once more, “How do you people come up with such outrageous bills.”

“I have no idea how much you believe I make. As a result, your team will reach this judgment.

What have you as a government ever done for me? NOTHING!!! Without receiving a single dollar from the government, I have raised myself, my children, and a large number of others all by myself. Yet you think you have a right to reap a return of more than 100% on your investment.

“I have worked tirelessly and continue to do so in order to live in this country without the assistance of the government, but you just sit in your office and create a variety of outrageous bills,” the speaker said. Even when everything in this country is broken, you still feel the need to take from places you haven’t made a vow.

“Since you people insist, feel free to come shut down my business, arrest me, throw me in jail, or even kill me; the fact that we are all going to die at some point means that I won’t be scared of what will ultimately become everyone’s faith, and what I don’t have, I can’t give. I am NOT AFRAID.
