Police Corporal Bright Wamadi and two other people were detained by Rivers State Police Command agents for allegedly taking part in an armed robbery and a car theft in Port Harcourt.
According to SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the state police public relations officer (PPRO), the suspects and others detained for various criminal activities in the state were apprehended on Ada-George Road by members of the C4i Intelligence Unit.
Iringe-Koko claimed that on the day of the crime, the suspects held their victim at gunpoint while robbing him of his Toyota Corolla automobile.
She revealed that the police corporal had been fired and that, after an investigation was complete, charges would be brought against him in court.
According to the PPRO, on May 18, 2023, around 11 p.m., men from the C4i Intelligence team were on routine patrol when they became suspicious of a Toyota Corolla 2005 with the license plate Rivers BNY 741 FV on Ada George Road in Port Harcourt. This suspicion was based on earlier intelligence the team had gotten. The team gave the car a close pursuit before finally catching up with it.
“While one of the gang members managed to escape, three armed robbers—including police officer Cpl. Bright Okay Wamadi, Samuel Charles, and Michael Nwanchukwu—were captured.
After a thorough investigation, it was determined that the four armed robbers held the victim (name withheld) at gunpoint while attempting to steal his 2005 Toyota Corolla in the shade of grey with the license plate Rivers BNY 741 FV near Apostolic Church Gateway in Port Harcourt.
The police officer, Bright Okey, was tried and fired when the inquiry was finished in accordance with police internal procedures. The suspects admitted to the crime. He will face charges in court with one of his conspirators.
She claimed that among the items taken from the suspects was a gray 2005 Toyota Corolla automobile and a locally made single-barreled revolver with one live round.
