The Nigerian Police Force has warned comedians and skit writers who play practical jokes to control their behavior because they put Nigerian lives at jeopardy.
Police advise against pranksters and skit creators engaging in criminal activity or other risky or illegal acts that could threaten people’s lives or dehumanize them.

The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, announced this in a video.

“This development is getting out of control unsafe and exposing individuals to all kinds of risks in our society. People who engage in these activities take significant personal risks, and they inevitably put other people’s lives in jeopardy, according to Adejobi.

He made it clear that raising awareness was not impeding the skit writers from carrying out their duties, but he did warn that extreme actions like wielding firearms and molestation of bystanders are frowned upon by security personnel.

“We just believe there is a need for us to speak to that,” the FPRO stated. We must provide guidance to our people. Could we please control where we are going? The situation is getting so serious because we are unable to force you to cease doing your business or prevent you from having your source of income.

“Someone was carrying a fake gun one day for a joke, and if police officers on patrol came across you, they would actually think you were a criminal planning to conduct a robbery operation, and they fired you with a death warrant. Would you say that is an extrajudicial killing?”

The police officer continued, without giving any names, to discuss a well-known sketch creator who used to physically assault Nigerians in his practical jokes, stating that it was turning into a crime and needed to be controlled.

“This is out of control, and I believe we need to have a self-talk session. Those of you playing pranks should take care to avoid breaking the law because the law does not regard anyone’s rights.

Does it justify picking up a cane and beating a girl as if it were your daughter if you claim she is not wearing appropriately? I don’t believe you should hit your daughter in that way, even if the girl is your daughter,” Adejobi stated.
