‘Please Show Mercy,’ Ekweremadu’s Kinsmen say. Request the UK Government

Members of the Ikeoha Mpu Pacesetters League, IMPL, have joined their voices in begging the UK Court for unconditional clemency less than 24 hours before the sentence is handed down to the former Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, his wife Beatrice, and Dr Obinna Obeta.
Ekweremadu is from Mpu in Enugu State’s Aninri Local Government Area.

Remember that the Nigerian Senate, House of Representatives, ECOWAS Parliament, and prominent serving and former leaders such as former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, among others, have written to the UK Court requesting mercy for Ekweremadus.

IMPL, an assembly of over 500 individuals who were empowered

Senator Ekweremadu described him as a good man for sponsoring their education and securing jobs in various fields.

Engr. Chijioke Benjamin Ezekwe, President-General of the Association, told journalists in Enugu that Senator Ekweremadu and his wife’s conviction is based on mistakes they made while trying to save their ailing daughter and does not reflect their true character.

Ezekwe, who also revealed that he was among the thousands of people who benefited from the Senator’s Ikeoha Foundation Education Scheme, said the UK Government should consider his contributions to humanity and the development of Africa as a whole.

The IMPL President maintained that the pleas for mercy on the Ekweremadus are coming from all over Africa.

There were numerous testimonies from around the world that Ike Ekweremadu will be remembered as a role model for future generations.

“It is rather ironic to believe that the same man who had denied himself comfort to train many indigent persons both in his community and beyond, built roads and schools, created employment opportunities, sponsored so many life changing bills at the National Assembly and meritoriously served the African Continent as Deputy Speaker and Speaker of the Parliament of ECOWAS, among other global assignments, will intentionally commit such a crime,” he said.

“However, since they have been found guilty, all we can ask for is mercy.” Senator Ekweremadu and his wife, like the Biblical Docars, were revered as gods by many.

“For our sister Sonnia, who is still battling cancer.” life threatening ailment, they should be released unconditionally to reunite with their family and loved ones.”

“We commend all those that have voiced out their hearts in testimonies of whom the Ekweremadus are.

“We shall all intensify our prayers, for the darkest hours of the night is closer to morning”, he concluded.
