After Oba Jimoh Oladunni Oyewunmi, the longest-reigning king in Ogbomoso’s history, passed away 21 months ago, a new monarch has been installed in the ancient metropolis.
Prince Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye was confirmed as the new Soun of Ogbomosoland on Saturday, with Governor Seyi Makinde’s blessing.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Olusegun Olayiwola, issued a statement explaining that the lengthy procedures required by law had been followed prior to the announcement.
Quote from Olayiwola:
His Excellency extends his best wishes to the new Soun-elect on his assumption of the throne held by his ancestors.
Besides being a true native son, Prince Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye’s selection is noteworthy because he will join an exclusive club of former ministers who now sit on the throne of their families.
The future Soun of Ogbomoso went to school in Nigeria for a while to learn English, then went abroad to earn a master’s degree in industrial and labor relations.
Before he became a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church in 1992, he was a successful businessman and keynote speaker.
Never sought the throne 3.
Prince Olaoye was born into the Olaoye royal family—one of Ogbomoso’s five royal dynasties, along with the Oyewunmis and Ajagunlades—but he denied any interest in succeeding his father as Soun of Ogbomoso in 1940.
Four. A priest before he was a monarch
It had been around 30 years since Olaoye, commonly known as “Pastor G,” first assumed leadership of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
Before moving to Germany, he pastored three RCCG parishes in Nigeria. He then took charge of the RCCG Parish in Bonn.
He currently serves as pastor of the Jesus House congregation of the RCCG in Washington, DC. In addition to his other responsibilities, he is the RCCG, North America Convention and Special Projects Coordinator.
5 He claimed he told Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the RCCG’s General Overseer, that he didn’t want the stool, and that Adeboye told him he shouldn’t resist his destiny.
Six, Ghandi argued that his faith, as a pastor, profoundly challenged every motivation to become a traditional monarch, regardless of how he felt about the ancient throne. But he claimed he had a revelation from God regarding the stool.
After several consultations, Ghandi said the reality of becoming the Soun of Ogbomoso-designate came on him while he spoke to his congregation at his church in the United States.
After praying for a turning point in his life on January 2, 2022, Pastor Ghandi supposedly received assurance from God that he had been born for this very purpose.
Predicted retirement age of 60.
Pastor Afolabi Ghandi claimed he had planned to retire to a simple life at the age of 60 after devoting half his adult life to pastoring.
He has plans to explore the world because he enjoys doing so. His unquenchable thirst for seeing the world, he claims, may have been sparked by the fact that he was born in a car.
Wedded bliss number eight
Omo, who is also a priest, and Prince Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye have been married for many years.
His wife started a ministry for women called Jesus Women Ministries, which seeks to apply biblical principles to the challenges women face from childhood through old age.
