The Minister of Finance, Mr. Dele Alake, has been called before an ad hoc committee of the House of Representatives examining the collapse of Nigeria’s mass transit plan.
The Federation Accountant General, the Federation Head of Service, and the Federation Trade and Investment Minister have also been called.
The committee’s chairman, Representative Victor Ogene, reportedly issued the summons on Wednesday in Abuja, as reported by NAN.
He explained that the committee had made the decision to ask the ministers and others to provide the necessary information about the funding of earlier mass transit programs.
He said the committee hadn’t received the necessary paperwork yet, so it had invited the agencies to appear on September 11 and 12 at 11 a.m.
In addition, “the clerk of this committee is to invite the Managing Director of the Infrastructure Bank to appear on the same day and time,” he added.
Both the National Association of Road Transport Owners and the Road Transport Employers of Nigeria were subpoenaed by the committee’s chairman.
However, it cautioned those involved not to take the offer lightly, saying that those who chose not to attend would face the wrath of legislators.
Please be advised that the House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is extending this invitation to you, and it is not a joke.
“And if for any reason, any of them fail to honour this invitation, we shall invoke the full power of this committee as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended,” he added.
