Mathew Ifeanyi, 38, was detained by members of the So-Safe Corps in Ogun State after he allegedly hacked his father to death for the N70,000 he was guarding.
According to the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area’s Commander of the So-Safe Corps, Soji Ganzallo, the event occurred on Tuesday, August 29 at 11 Ibikunle Street, Diamond Estate, along the Olorunda Area in Ntabo, Ijoko.
Ganzallo claims that the Divisional Officer of the Corps at the Alade/Atago/Ntabo Divisional Command, one Superintendent Alabi Gafar, was tipped off that “a middle-aged man was attacking his biological father with a cutlass.”
The patrol squad was sent out right away, as Ganzallo mentioned, “to rescue the helpless parent, Anthony Nnadike, 100 years, and to get the son arrested.”
A doctor later verified the victim’s death at the general hospital where he was taken after being transported there with life-threatening injuries.
Ganzallo revealed that the subject was caught and interviewed after initially resisting arrest.
At the outset of the investigation, the suspect “said that the inability of his father to refund the sum of N70,000 he entrusted him with since 22nd July 2022” motivated his crime.
According to Ganzallo, the man said that he did it since his father would not give him money to start his own business after he quit his job to do it on his own.
The Sango Divisional Police Headquarters is conducting further investigation and will likely prosecute the offender, according to Moruf Yusuf, a spokeswoman for So-Safe.
