Oba Abraham Olusegun Bankole, Olu of Onibuku in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, Ogun State, was killed when a truck ran over him.
Rumor has it that on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, the king was riding a tricycle (or Keke Napep) along the Ota-Idiroko expressway, not far from Winners Chapel, when a truck carrying alcoholic beverages crashed into him.
The Oba was reportedly killed instantly when he was struck by the truck bearing the license plate number “EPE 252 XF” as he dismounted from the vehicle.
Florence Okpe, a spokesperson for the FRSC in Ogun, verified the event.
She said, “I was made aware of the incident today.”
Okpe, however, stated that the FRSC in Ota Unit had not yet provided her with a comprehensive briefing.
The truck carrying the king’s remains has been removed from the road and taken to the General Hospital in Ota.
One of Ogun West’s most prominent Obas confirmed the incident to reporters, expressing regret at the king’s choice to use a tricycle for transportation.
There are rumors that Oba Bankole abandoned his car because of the recent increase in gas prices.
Babatunde Akinbiyi, a spokesman for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, has also confirmed the occurrence.
According to Akinbiyi, his officer was informed about the fatal crash.
Yes, that is the case. A fatal accident occurred in the neighborhood today,” he stated.
“Corps Commander and Chief Executive Officer of Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency commiserates with the Kabiyesi’s family and entire inhabitants of the community,” he continued.
