Nigerians made wise leadership choices during my tenure — Obasanjo

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo claims that the performances of Nigerian leaders during his tenure were far superior to those of today’s leaders, and that Nigerians made the right decisions back then.

During his keynote speech at the National Daily Awards in Lagos State, Obasanjo noted that, while politics was tumultuous back then, as it is now, they were determined to choose the right leaders who made the right decisions for the country.

“In fact, when it comes to leadership, I believe post-independence Nigerians make the best choices.” “We all know that if you make the right decision, your performance and consequences will be right,” he said.

He remembered the World leaders had positive feelings about Nigeria shortly after its independence, but the country has failed to live up to those expectations.

“When Nigeria’s then-Prime Minister went to the United Nations after independence, the world referred to it as a giant in the sun, not even an African giant.”

“But the question is, have we met that standard?” If we haven’t, why haven’t we? Is there anything that leaders in the post-independence era possessed that leaders today lack? We discuss values; have our values changed? What is Nigeria today, and what do we want Nigeria to be? “How do we achieve the Nigeria we desire?”

“I have learned a lot about peacemaking and mediation over the course of my life.”

to recognize that peace, security, and stability are necessary ingredients for any country’s development and growth. No country can achieve greatness without justice, equity, and fairness.

“There is something special about Nigerians when you look at us individually.” Individually, they excel wherever they go. When you look around the world today, Nigerians are doing amazing things on their own. It’s time for us to band together and get the country back on track.

“If we do not do so, our existence is meaningless.” We must make a difference in order to leave a better society.”
