Ammaari Musa Semwogerere, a recently appointed Magistrate, was arrested and fired after he allegedly posed as a woman in order to take his girlfriend’s exams at the Law Development Centre (LDC) in Lira, Uganda.
Local media reports that the Judicial Service Commission has promoted Semwogerere to the position of Magistrate Grade One on probation.
On July 26, 2023, Semwogerere, as Mukisa Anthony, was busted at the Law Development Centre (LDC) Lira Campus for cheating on an exam for his fiancée, a Bar Course student named Irene Mutonyi.
The incident was reported by campus authorities to the police, who subsequently apprehended the suspect and charged him with two charges of forgery and one act of impersonation.
The Lira Chief Magistrate heard his case on Friday, July 28, and remanded him to prison until August 3, 2023.
Director of the LDC Frank Nigel Othembi said in a statement that Semwogerere had broken two laws: Section 351 for forgery and Section 381 for impersonation.
Semwogerere’s new appointment was rescinded by the Judiciary in a statement published after the occurrence.
This letter serves as official notification that Mr. Semwogerere Ammaari Musa, one of the recently recruited Magistrates I, will not be engaged into the Judiciary Service.
