New Nigeria Peoples Party presidential candidate Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has been suspended by the party’s board of trustees for “anti-party activities” on the eve of the Feb. 25 poll.

The party’s National Working Committee was similarly put on indefinite hiatus by the BoT.
Dr. Agbo Major was named interim National Chairman, while Mr. Ogini Olaposi was named acting National Secretary, among 18 new national officers.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the ban would last for six months.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), a special general assembly of the party was conducted at the Rockview Hotels in Apapa, where the suspensions were put to a voice vote.
The NWC of the party suspended the party’s founder, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, and the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Major, on Thursday, August 24.
Babayo Muhammed Abdulahi, the board’s secretary, spoke to reporters after Tuesday’s meeting in Lagos and accused Kwankwaso of meeting with President Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate for the People’s Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, without the board’s permission.
Abdullahi stated that the NNPP board has removed Kwankwaso as national leader.
The supposed suspension of the NNPP founder, according to the secretary of the BoT, is a grave violation of the party’s constitution.
He mentioned how Aniebonam had resigned as BoT chairman and how Dr. Chief Tope Aluko had been elected in his place, with Abdulahi taking over as secretary and High Chief Tony Obioha taking over as spokesperson.
Abdulahi stated that the NWC’s actions nullified the pre-election MOU inked with the Kwankwasia Movement, The National Movement, and the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders.
The claimed suspension of the founder, Abdulahi argued, was a flagrant severe breach of the NNPP constitution, and amounted to recklessness and irresponsibility on the side of the inept NWC.
“The BoT decided that public sector material evidence confirmed that Kwankwaso was engaged in anti-party activities in multiple meetings, suggesting political conversations with the President, Atiku, and Obi without authorization from the board.
This has resulted in a six-month ban awaiting the Disciplinary Committee’s inquiry.
The BOT stated that the cooperation could no longer continue because of the avoidable violation of the MoU between NNPP and Kwankwasia, TNM, and NAGAFF.
Therefore, “it is to state clearly that the MOU have been rendered void.”
The interim chairman added that his group would waste no time in repairing the damage done by the expelled NWC officials.
Major assured disaffected members that the party will remain the most accessible and approachable in the country, pleading for their return.
“We don’t intend to shut anybody out or censor anybody, but we want to ensure that we remain on track and maintain our people oriented ideology,” he stated.
The new NWC and other members from throughout the country reportedly showed up to the special general assembly meeting, which was reported on by NAN.
