Judgment from the Presidential Tribunal must be sound – CUPP

others Some worried Nigerians have spoken out ahead of today’s Wednesday ruling of the presidential election petition tribunal, saying they want nothing less than a sound judgement based on rule of law and not sentiments.

Chief Peter Ojonugwa Ameh, National Secretary of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), and Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), were among those who spoke with SAREWAHAUSA.

Judges need only administer justice based on the facts and the results of the national elections, according to Ameh.

“All we want is justice that is based on the truth and justice that is based on what really transpired on the day of election when INEC changed the goal post in the middle of the match,” he said.

INEC has promised Nigerians that the BVAS will be used to send election results in real time from polling places to the IREV portal, making it possible to detect and prevent voter fraud and guarantee the legitimacy of our elections.

But INEC did a poor job of making sure the election results matched up with their claims.

As a public institution responsible to the people, INEC failed to provide complete disclosure of the type, cause, or extent of the difficulties it experienced during the election, despite its claim that the commission’s failure was due to those issues.

For the 2023 General Elections, INEC was mandated by its own written manual to use the BVAS and IREV in addition to the paper work required by the dual transmission and accreditation system, as required by the Electoral Act.

To quote the report, “The failure of INEC to adhere to its own established principles of engagement in itself was a major setback for the country’s drive towards democracy and electoral integrity.”

APC leader Eze added, “If the events of the past few days are any indication of the outcome of the judgement by the Presidential Election Tribunal, it is very ominous and worrisome.”

First, Justice Mary Odili’s warning, or more accurately her unholy advise, that no one should oppose or abuse the Justices based on their judgement in the 2023 Presidential election. What we can anticipate has been established by her statement.

“Secondly, the warning by the DSS, the Army, and other security agencies against any protest because of the judgement’s outcome shows that Nigerians should not expect any positive judgment,” the authors write. I understand that the Army has already been mobilised accordingly.

Thirdly, I’ve heard that certain judges and politicians are already leaving the nation because they fear for the future of Nigeria and its people.

I’ve heard that the federal government has told university presidents they can’t let students protest the ruling.

Finally, the NLC has requested workers, including banks, to stop working during this time, making it even more likely that Nigerians will go hungry.

It’s a precarious position, and as I told my wife this morning, only God knows what this country will give birth to.

“My only counsel is that those that love this country should not sleep by this night but use that period to pray fervently to God to have mercy upon us and save this nation from the doom that awaits her.”
