In Osun, a barber shop was attacked by gunmen, sending three students to the hospital.
Gunmen, believed to be members of a cult, opened fire on a group of Osun State College of Health Technology, Ilesa, students, killing three.
The victims reportedly went to a barbershop in Amuta Junction, Ilesa, to plug in their phones on Sunday, when the attack took place.
Punch quotes unnamed school sources as saying that one male and two female students were shot and sent to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital in Osogbo with life-threatening injuries.
A student at the university who spoke with the media on Monday said it was unclear what precipitated the shooting.
But he alleged the suspects were cult members fighting a fraternity war with other local groups.
I don’t know what happened, but there were gunshots heard at the Amuta barbershop where the three students had gone to get their phones charged.
The male was the first person I noticed when we arrived at the scene. A bullet pierced his stomach. According to the source, “he was still alive when he and the other victims, all of whom are women, were transferred to a hospital in Osogbo for treatment.”
Kehinde Adeleke, the Public Relations Officer for the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, said that a report had been filed, but he did not have any information on the perpetrators at this time.
Adeleke stated, “It was discovered that three students (one male and two female) from the Osun State College of Health Technology, Ilesa were shot by unknown shooters while charging their phones at Amuta intersection on Sunday, July 23, 2023, about 9 p.m.
The bullet wound counts among the students were quite high. In an effort to save their lives, members of the Amuta village transported the wounded to Uniosun Teaching Hospital Osogbo. In the end, the students were sent to the OAU Teaching Hospital in Ile-Ife.
