Troops from Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), a military group tasked with keeping the peace in Plateau, Bauchi, and Kaduna states, discovered a gun factory in Kafachan, Jama’a Local Government Area (LGA) in Kaduna State.
Capt. James Oya, the OPSH’s Media Officer, announced this in a statement on Saturday.
According to Oya, the military also apprehended one Napoleon John, a suspected gunrunner, and recovered a variety of guns and ammo.
He explained that the feat was made possible through a week-long operation carried out by the military.
“Our troops discovered a gun manufacturing factory in Kafanchan, Jama’a LGA of Kaduna State, in line with our resolve to deal decisively with crime sponsors and perpetrators, as well as mopping up illegal weapons in our joint operation area.”
“This was the culmination of a week-long intelligence operation that resulted in the capture of a wanted gunrunner, Napoleon John, who had been on our wanted list.”
“The suspect, who confessed to the crime, led troops to a hidden factory where another miscreant identified as Monday Dunia sold arms of various calibres.”
“Dunia admitted to being in the business for more than five years, contributing to the crisis in Kaduna State and neighboring Plateau.”
“A thorough search of the factory led to the recovery of 22 different weapons, including seven pistols, two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles, two military grade AK-47 rifles, and nine revolvers,” he explained.
Oya went on to say that the troops also recovered a submachine gun, 7.62mm special ammunition, machine tools, and a gas cylinder.
“In a follow-up operation conducted between Thursday night and early Friday morning, troops raided another hideout in Kafanchan’s Adua 1 community and recovered two more AK-47 rifles, two revolver rifles, live rounds of 9mm and 7.62 ammunition, six dangerous daggers, and one hacker axe.”
“Several empty 7.62mm special rounds cases, two mobile phones, one fragmented jacket, two Police uniforms, one pair of military camouflage trousers, one ammunition magazine carrier, one pistol holster, and one military grade camel pouch.”
“We also recovered one police combat helmet, two masks, four identity cards, gunpowder, shrapnels, charms, and amulets.”
