Chinagorom Emmanuel, a 24-year-old robbery suspect arrested in Delta State, has confessed that he went into robbery to raise money to give his late mother a proper burial.
According to Punch, the suspect confessed after being apprehended by Agbor Gha-Ihun Vigilante Group members in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of the state.
Emmanuel, from Abia State, is accused of stealing phones and other valuable items in Agbor and other communities.
Speaking to reporters, the suspect stated that he is an electrical technician who resorted to stealing in order to provide a proper burial for his mother, whose body is currently in the mortuary.
“I go into people’s stores and pretend to buy something. However, I intend to steal valuable items such as phones. “I’m new to Agbor, and I met my waterloo in one of my victim’s shops,” he explained.
The suspect went on to say that he chose crime because he has no one to turn to for assistance.
Emmanuel also revealed that he works with a northerner in Asaba who buys stolen phones.
The suspect begged forgiveness, admitting that his criminal activities had brought him shame.
In response to the arrest, Comrade Monday Kiyem, Chairman of Agbor Gha-Ihun Vigilante, stated that with their security outfit, it is the end of the road for Emmanuel’s criminality because they do not compromise crime.
He stated that criminals who are apprehended will be punished.
