I Must Be Nigeria’s President, If Not Today, Then Someday – Mr Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, has declared that he must be Nigeria’s president.
Obi, who finished third in the 2023 presidential election, made the remarks on Friday at the launch of a book titled “Peter Obi: Many Voices, One Perspectives” in Awka, Anambra State’s capital.

The book presentation was intended to raise funds for Mr. Peter Obi’s ongoing election court case.

“Whoever believes I’m in transit is wasting his time.” Let me tell you something: I should be the president of this country. I’m certain of it. If not today, then it must be tomorrow.”

“Others who want to be should come and join us.”

Tell us what they want to do and how they intend to do it. I don’t have dual citizenship because this is my country. Anyone who believes I intend to flee Nigeria is delusory.

“I have three engagements today in Anambra and Lagos.” Tonight, I’ll be speaking in Lagos. We are not leaving Nigeria. I’m not looking forward to becoming president, but I know it has to happen.

“I was in court in Anambra for three years to reclaim my governorship, just to challenge the process.” Many people tried to discourage me, but I told them that even if it took the entire four years of my tenure to prove a point and correct the process, I would be satisfied.

“I was in an accident.”It was a World Food Organization event yesterday in Abuja. I heard a report that said Nigeria will face severe hunger in the coming years.

“It is Nigeria, not Peter Obi, who will face hunger.” According to the report, Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe will be hardest hit, but those three states combined have five times the land mass of Israel, yet Egypt exports food while Nigeria cannot feed itself.

“As a result, we must cultivate the habit of doing the right thing.” It will consume us someday if we do not do the right thing.”

“I must be the president of this country; if not today, then tomorrow.” I’m not in a hurry or desperate. I’ve made a decision.

“For the sake of a better Nigeria,” he stated.

Obi also stated that he would respect the court’s decision in the ongoing electoral dispute.

“We are peaceful, and we will not argue with any politician.” Don’t be discouraged by my apologies to others. Even when we are correct, we cannot fight our fathers as children.”

“There will be no rioting.” “I’m in Nigeria; I don’t have dual citizenship; I’m not going anywhere; we have to be here to right the wrongs in the country,” he said.

The event was attended by dignitaries such as the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Afred Achebe, and the Catholic bishop of Awka diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor.
