Erik ten Hag, manager of Manchester United, has revealed that Harry Maguire has the final say on whether or not he will return to Old Trafford for the upcoming season.
Maguire was demoted from the starting lineup last year, and now he has been removed as captain in preparation for the upcoming season, with Bruno Fernandes being named the new leader of the team.
The England defender has had interest from both West Ham and Tottenham, who both had a £20 million offer rejected last week.
However, Ten Hag has urged that Maguire determine for himself whether or not he wants to challenge for his position.
Ten Hag responded, “Exactly,” when asked if Maguire should stay or leave.
He went on to say that at Man United, players have to “fight for their position” by bringing their skills to the table and demonstrating why they are the most valuable to the squad.
