Governor Alia pleads unions to call off strike

To protest the withdrawal of fuel subsidies, organized labor in Benue State was planning a strike, but Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has urged them to call off the strike.

The government, he assured the union, was working around the clock to accommodate their requests, so they should be patient.

Instead of viewing the consistent payment of pensions, gratuities, and salaries to state employees as a success, Governor Alia has stated that his administration is committed to maintaining the practice by stabilizing the welfare package of the state’s workforce.

He promised that his administration will let its accomplishments in power speak for themselves rather than resort to propaganda or political blackmail.

On Sunday, during his address to the state in honor of Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Day, Governor Alia made this declaration.

He assured the public that the government operating under his watch was open to new ideas and criticism, and that corruption and favoritism were being pushed to the sidelines. He also said that the administration was prepared to wave the banners of merit, equity, equality, justice, and fairness in all of its dealings.

The governor paid tribute to the people who made independence possible for the country while thanking the people of the state for trusting in him and standing by him to deliver effective government.

He thanked God for preserving national unity in the face of challenges to that goal in the past.

Young people from Benue, he said, should stop traveling to Abuja and other towns to honor specific Nigerians and instead take advantage of the information and communications technology (ICT) training offered by the state government.
