Ademola Adeleke, Governor of Osun State, has stated that his administration will work relentlessly to maintain cordial relationships among all branches of government.
Adeleke made this pledge to lawmakers on Tuesday during the inauguration of the 8th Osun State House of Assembly.
Governor Adeleke dissolved the 7th Assembly, led by Timothy Owoeye, on Sunday and announced the 8th Assembly.
Adewale Egbedun, the member representing Odo-Otin State Constituency, was chosen Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly on Tuesday.
Addressing the lawmakers, Adeleke stated that the legislature is a key symbol of democracy and that it was his holy duty as a former member to foster good relationships among all branches of government.
In his own words,
“I will put forth every effort in that direction.”
“Our job as elected leaders is to serve the public. To meet public expectations, we must put aside any personal interests.
“Within the context of due process, our approach has been local content, direct labor, and value for money.”
He asked the 8th Assembly’s support for the continuation of the good governance revolution.
“That goal is only attainable with the support of the Assembly.” “My request is that you use your power for the benefit of the people and the public good,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Assembly’s new Speaker, Adewale Egbedun, has stated that the Assembly will compile and analyze all measures voted into law and signed by the state’s immediate prior legislature and executive, respectively.
According to Egbedun, this is in order to review several offensive laws enacted following the State’s governorship election on July 16.
“I’d also like to take this opportunity to announce that our leadership will compile and review all last-minute bills passed and signed by the outgoing administration.”
“We have reports and records of many bills that have been assented to that contain obnoxious provisions and clauses that may not be in the best interests of the state,” says the governor.
