Forty years after its inception, Lagos’ Blue Rail Mass Transit officially opens for business

After years of planning, the Lagos State Government finally opened the Blue Line Rail Mass Transit to the public.
In a live broadcast seen by SAREWAHAUSA on Monday, Channels Television announced that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State would be making the maiden ride from Marina to Mile-2.
You may recall that in January, then-President Muhammadu Buhari officially opened the first section of the Lagos train station.
The initial stage covers a distance of 13 kilometers, from Marina to Mile 2.
About 500,000 passengers per day will be carried along the 27-kilometer train line.
Marina, National Theatre, Iganmu, Alaba, and Orile stations make up the first phase.
Passengers doing only a portion of the journey from Marina to Mile 2 would pay N400 to N500, while the whole fee is N750.
The late Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, first proposed the Blue Line Rail Project in 1983.
Twenty years later, in 2003, the train network was inaugurated under Bola Tinubu’s leadership.
