After online outcry over the subpar uniforms worn by Ekiti State’s contingents at the 7th National Youth Games, NYG, in Asaba, Delta State, the state government recalled the manager of its Sports Council, Adekunle Adeyemi.
On the weekend, photos went viral showing the Ekiti contingent’s subpar uniforms at the competition’s opening ceremony, causing some to express alarm.
In a statement sent to SAREWA HAUSA on Sunday, Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji blamed the state’s sports council boss, Taiwo Olatunbosun, for the inadequate uniforms worn by the state’s athletes at the tournament.
According to the commissioner, the Governor was ashamed by the ceremony’s performance.
After the State team looked disheveled at the National Youth Games’ opening ceremony’s march-past event, the command was issued.
The official stated, “Adeyemi is directed to immediately hand over to the next most senior official at the Games and return home to explain circumstances leading to the shabby kitting of the state athletes, whose photograph is circulating on social media.”
The Commissioner, however, said that the state government had made sufficient preparations to send a team to the Olympics.
