Abdoulaye Doucoure, an Everton midfielder, has slammed the club’s former manager, Frank Lampard, claiming the Chelsea star had something personal against him.
Doucoure, who claimed this shortly before Lampard was fired, insisted Lampard’s stint was the first time in his career he didn’t play as often as he wanted.
The 30-year-old has been an important player for Everton since coming from Watford in 2020, but was on the verge of quitting the Premier League last season after falling out of favor with Lampard.
“It was difficult because it was the first time in my career that I didn’t get to play as much as I wanted, especially for reasons I don’t understand,” Doucoure told The Athletic.
“I was one of the fittest players on the team and someone who always gave his all, so not being able to help the team in difficult times when we were losing many games in a row was heartbreaking.”
“It was impossible not to play for a year, but I believe that was the plan with him [Frank Lampard].” Even if I were training hard and fresh, I doubt he’d put me on the team. It felt as if he had a grudge against me.”
