Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s media adviser, Phrank Shaibu, has criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s proposal to provide N8,000 per month to 12 million households with low incomes.
We had previously reported that the President had asked for and received the National Assembly’s approval for a loan of $800 million to be utilized to help disadvantaged residents.
Shaibu, though, referred to the scheme as a “joke” in a statement he released on Thursday.
Statistics show that a Nigerian home had an average of 5.06 individuals as of 2019.
Therefore, each person in a home will receive N1,600 per month, or N53 per day, under Tinubu’s boring plan. How should they handle it? Use the funds to purchase a sachet of fresh water or a daily cup of boiled groundnuts?
“Tinubu bragged about developing Nigeria’s economy to be like Lagos’, but this was all a ruse. According to statistics, Lagos receives more than 70% of its revenue from income taxes paid by private businesses that have operated there for years due to its role as the former capital of Nigeria.
“His only plan is to tax Nigerians to death, as he did in Lagos, and that is why the people of Lagos rejected him in the last election,” he revealed.
Shaibu went on to say that the majority of Nigerians no longer support the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“It is no coincidence that the party unquestionably introduced the threat of vote buying into Nigeria’s politics in 2019 when it invented the charade of trader moni,” he continued.
