Churches used to pay me only $5,000 – Simi

Simisola Kosoko, better known as Simi, an award-winning Nigerian singer, has stated that when she was a gospel performer, she was paid as little as N5,000-10,000 as a performance fee.

She stated that the highest she had ever been paid was N70,000.

The ‘Duduke’ singer revealed this during an interview section on MTV Base Africa’s Official Naija Top 10 show.

She stated,

“I used to go to a lot of churches and perform.” They will pay me N5k to N10k. Do you know how much money I actually made while I was doing gospel [music]? N70,000. And I felt as if I’d arrived. “I still paid a 10% tithe from the money.”

She stated that she quit singing at some point because she was not making enough money from Christian music to cover studio sections and promotions.

Simi stated that due to a lack of funds, she was contracted to a record label that she regrets signing with to this day.

Because of the difficulties she found in the gospel music industry, the mother of one later shifted to secular music.
