Aso Villa, the official residence of the Nigerian president, is the first target of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike’s plan to demolish structures not included in the city’s original Master Plan of Abuja.
On Thursday night’s episode of Channels Television’s Politics Today, Daniel Bwala, a spokesman for the Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Council for the 2023 elections, confronted the minister on his demolition threat.
Bwala suggested that the President’s home and other government assets should be destroyed if the original Master Plan of the FCT must be upheld.
He said the minister had better things to do than tear down buildings.
When compared to the Ministry of Works, the FCT is an Administration rather than a Ministry. “The Administration of the FCT is about so much more than demolition,” Bwala remarked.
The demolition can begin immediately. Wike has stated that he desires a return to the original Master Plan. If we’re going to talk about the original Master Plan, I have to inform you that the Aso Villa, where the President and the seat of government are located, has to be demolished.
Second, none of the FCT’s military barracks were included in the original Master Plan, therefore they’ll have to be torn down.
Thirdly, the extension of Asokoro where all the governors of Nigeria have liaison offices or their private houses was not included in the original plan and will be demolished. He also noted that several important federal government assets and buildings were left out of the original Master Plan.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party leader said that former Rivers State governor Wike has the ability to deliver as a minister, so he should relax and stop making a fuss.
