Maintain a high level of standards in order to portray to the public the image of the SPCA as a sensitive and caring organization.
To willingly help coordinate the supportive efforts of volunteers in the spirit of working together for the welfare of all animals.
To do various duties as needed to guarantee the efficient operation of the shelter.
Collaborate with other shelter professionals to create a pleasant and harmonious environment among staff and volunteers, increasing team performance.

The Animal Care Attendant’s primary role is to ensure the health and welfare of the shelter’s animals. A subsidiary obligation is to provide competent and courteous support to the front office workers.

Some Specific Responsibilities:

To work together with others to keep the entire physical plant clean, sanitary, and efficient on a regular basis.
To keep the kennels, runs, and cat cages clean, sanitary, and efficient on a continuous basis.

To treat animals with kindness and concern, and convey these principles to people both on and off the job.
To provide the animals with the right diet and ensure that they feed and water properly.
To ensure the animal’s health and well-being in accordance with the society’s animal health policy, including the administration of medications recommended by the animal health technologist or other approved shelter staff.

To help the front office staff as needed in:

Telephone reception and other communication
Responding to counter queries

Accepting surrendered animals and following all adoption requirements.
License and merchandise sales.
Perform general office procedures and record keeping.
Other related duties.

To conduct all of the above in a pleasant, friendly manner to clients, volunteers, and other staff, to ensure the highest possible reputation for the shelter and the maintenance of the community’s goodwill.

Qualifications you must have:

High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid Class N or 5 BC. Requirements: – Valid driver’s license and abstract – Passion for animal welfare.
The ideal candidate should be familiar with the topography of the Branch’s warrant area and the Shelter’s warrant area. They should also be knowledgeable about animal breeds, traits, and frequent diseases.

Ability to function as a team player with demonstrated well-developed interpersonal skills.
Basic computer skills are required to handle the necessary front office activities.
Excellent client service.

Ability to prioritize demands on time.
Complete and demonstrate competency in the following BC SPCA courses upon hire (recommended) or within 6 months of hire:
SPCA Certificate, Part One
