Several bandits and other criminal elements have reportedly surrendered to the authorities in Katsina State, proving that the DHQ’s non-kinetic initiatives to restore calm there are having an effect.
This was announced in a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja by Director of Defence Information Brigadier General Tukur Gusau.
Gusau made this remark in response to a video clip that went viral showing soldiers fighting robbers in Katsina State.
He claimed the DHQ was checking the legitimacy of the footage.
He claims that the DHQ is aware of the positive outcomes that have resulted from the bandits’ resolve to repent and hand over their weapons to the authorities.
General Christopher Musa, the head of the Nigerian military, has promised that the country’s armed forces will use all legal means at their disposal to maintain peace and security.
The DHQ tells the people of Nigeria that the non-violent measures it has taken to restore peace have been effective, and that a number of bandits and other criminal elements have turned themselves in.
Bandits who are sincere about their surrender should be given the opportunity to do so by all levels of government.
He urged people to be calm and law-abiding, saying, “The DHQ is doing everything possible to restore peace and tranquility throughout the country.”
