President Muhammadu Buhari has praised Nigerian boxer Anthony Oluwafemi Joshua for defeating Jermaine Franklin by unanimous decision on Saturday night at London’s 02 Arena.
Femi Adesina, Special Assistant to the President, praised the boxer’s tenacious spirit in a statement on Saturday.
The President praised Joshua’s mindset, saying that he didn’t let his own setbacks and challenges break his resilient spirit. The former three-time world heavyweight champion has proven that those who dare can succeed through diligence, perseverance, patience, dedication, and humility, the President said.
Joshua’s courage and discipline both inside and outside the ring were praised by President Buhari, who hoped that his success would serve as a model for others.

The President was of the opinion that Joshua’s successes on the international stage would continue to encourage numerous aspiring professionals, particularly athletes and sportswomen, to not be deterred by brief losses and setbacks.

Following a unanimous points victory over an American, Franklin, at the London 02 Arena, Joshua got his winning streak back on track.
Joshua hasn’t won in more than two years after losing three straight fights to Oleksandr Usyk, the world champion of the WBA (Super), IBF, and WBO.
