Akpabio mandates APC chairman Akwa Ibom to establish a reconciliation committee

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has directed Stephen Ntukekpo, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, to form a reconciliation committee to address the party’s disagreements in the state.

Akpabio, who revealed this on Friday while addressing a Stakeholders’ meeting in Uyo, promised to reunite the party so that it could take over the state in the 2027 elections.

He also called for unity, emphasizing the need for party members to be steadfast on whatever party they belong to.

He further stated that it will not be permitted for someone to be a member of one party while still working for another.

He stated, “We will ensure that the APC in Akwa Ibom is one, and we will give people the option of belonging to us or them. There should be no in-between. We are going to handle all of the difficulties in APC, and we will inform certain people that they cannot be here and there.

“I have directed the party’s Chairman to form a reconciliation committee in the state; we must bring our members together. “If we work together, there is no barrier we cannot overcome.”

“I pray against confusion among my leaders not only in Uyo but in all of the senatorial districts; we must reconcile among ourselves.

Speaking about the 2027 elections, the Senate president expressed hope that the APC, the state’s opposition party, will win, stating that it would be an anomaly for the number three citizen to not produce a governor from the same party at the end of an election.

“You are aware that the party is located wherever the Senate President is.

“Is it possible that Nigeria will give Akwa Ibom the number three citizen and at the end of the election, it will not produce an APC governor?” He inquired.

Akpabio also faulted the Uyo and Eket senatorial districts for not inviting him to their campaigns during the previous election, claiming that there is no place he would go where people would not vote for the APC.

“So I wasn’t sure whether you were serious, but in 2027, I want to promise you that we will be more serious. I tried to phone them and get your campaign itinerary, but they refused. Is there somewhere I’ll go where folks will not vote for APC? You should have welcomed Godswill Akpabio, but you preferred to abandon him on the other side (Ikot Ekpene senatorial district).

“Look at what the other side did; they gave President Tinubu 120,000 votes but Uyo and Eket combined ended up with only 40,000 votes” he went on to say.
